Carried out social research into the effects of the desert locust on poor farmers in order to provide an assessment of the benefits of a global desert locust control programme. Used participatory methodologies, for consultations with poor farmers in areas affected by the desert locust, as well as relevant government stakeholders.		HM

Kazakhstan Social survey for land use planning	DFID / SERA Oct 2003 - present	Social Survey for a Participatory Land Use Planning Project, Kazakhstan: provided capacity building and field support for a local NGO in the implementation of a social survey around a former Soviet nuclear test site. Provided recommendations for alternative land use planning practices for local livestock owners to avoid further risks from contamination. Worked with a national NGO on the design of information and education material on risks from contamination.		HM
